The Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria, LAUTECH Teaching Hospital Chapter has called on Osun state government to give access to more decentralized testing in order to reach more suspected contacts.

AMLSN, in a statement jointly signed by its chairman and secretary, Mrs O.A Oyeniran and Mr A.A Ibrahim on Tuesday, said the teaching hospital Medical Laboratories are manned by competent Medical Laboratory Scientists who are willing to contribute their quota to curb this ravaging menace.

According to the statement, Osun state Government should utilize gene expert machines available in the teaching hospital and in State Hospital Medical Laboratories.

“The machines have been proven to be useful for covid 19 diagnosis and manned by competent Medical Laboratory Scientists who are willing to contribute their quota to curb this ravaging menace.”

It said the increased avenue of testing will provide basis for quarantining of covid 19 patients and help in it's containment.

The statement reads in part “The Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria, LAUTECH Teaching Hospital Chapter wishes to commend the Government of the State of Osun for her proactiveness and prompt response to the present covid 19 global pandemic which found it's way into our state a couple of weeks ago.

“With the report of rising confirmed cases of covid 19 cases, we call upon the government to give access to more decentralized testing in order to reach more suspected contacts as treatment and isolation are subject to primarily to laboratory Diagnosis.

“AMLSN therefore uses this opportunity to call on the state government to utilize gene xpert machines available in our teaching hospital and State Medical Laboratories, these machines have been proven to be useful for covid 19 diagnosis and manned by competent Medical Laboratory Scientists who are willing to contribute their quota to curb this ravaging menace. This increased avenue of testing will provide basis for quarantining of covid 19 patients and help in it's containment.”
